Msichana Initiative is implementing gender norms approach through 3 core strategies; enhancing girls agency, policy advocacy and community engagement. As an organisation we center the question of power relations, socialization and interest and how they disadvantage girls and young women's rights including the right to education.
Our gender norms approach engages girls directly in school and out of school, to build their voice, power and leadership in asserting and demand for their rights.
Through our Enhancing Girls' Agency strategy, we amplify girls ability to understand and demand their rights through various interventions including: in school gender clubs (Msichana Amani clubs), out of school platform, fireside chats, Annual Girl Agenda forum, Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights together with donation of bicycles to girls walking long distance to and from school.
Our Policy Advocacy aims at influencing the review and implementation of gender-sensitive policies to protect girls' rights. We use media campaigns, engagement with policy makers, strategic litigation, sharing of statements and opinion pieces to ensure Institutions, communities and the government are responsive and accountable to critical issues facing young women in Tanzania.
Understanding girls are not living on an island, we implement Community Engagement strategy to transform negative gender norms and create safe communities that protect girls' rights. We have established community platforms (Msichana Cafe) in 44 communities in 4 regions in the country, where community members meet to discuss and find solutions for girls' issues in their areas.
Together, we can make a real impact in communities around Tanzania. Help us bring hope and empower girls to reach their full potential.

Authentic stories from the heart of our community
"Before joining the Msichana Amani Gender Equality Club, I lacked confidence and knew very little about girls' rights. After becoming a member, I have gained courage and can now stand up for my own rights as well as those of other girls who may not have the confidence to do so. Whenever I encounter a case of violence against girls or children, I report it to my teacher or another trusted adult."
